Howard University School of Law’s mission statement said its graduates have a choice in their legal careers, they could either be a social engineer or a parasite on society. Certainly strong words but Attorney Chinwe’ N. Foster took it to heart. Fortunately for society and her hundreds of clients, Foster opted for being an attorney who is a social engineer and use her skills to understand and defend people and the Constitution. “Being a social engineer involves being highly skilled and I spend a lot of time educating myself on the law. I can go into any courtroom and argue my case. But it’s not just knowledge of the law,” she says. “You have to be sensitive to the fact that these are humans. If you only care about making money or taking a plea, you’re ignoring the fact that these are human beings with lives and they want to continue leading them.”
